Details

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has been cooperating with European broadcasters since 1950, but has only now received full member status. This also grants it access to all cooperation networks of the European Broadcasting Union, including platforms for journalistic investigations.

Membership became possible after a change in rules

According to EBU Director General Noel Curran, "Canada's voice in this community makes us stronger."

The President and CEO of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Marie-Philippe Bouchard, stated that full membership will help combat disinformation and strengthen cooperation between countries on both sides of the Atlantic.

The EBU explained that Canada's accession became possible after a review of the organization's rules, which opened membership to broadcasters from countries outside Europe, provided they meet the defined criteria of the Council of Europe.
