The Brussels transport company STIB will transfer 36 buses to Ukraine, which will head to communities in Chernihiv and Sumy regions after the summer. This was reported by Euractiv, writes UNN.
Details
These are diesel buses that were put into service in 2010–2011 and have already covered about 700,000 kilometers each. The transfer became possible thanks to the renewal and electrification of the Belgian capital's bus fleet.
These buses will mean that life, normal life, continues. People will be able to get to work, children to schools, medical staff to hospitals, and the elderly to receive necessary services
At the same time, the diplomat recalled the scale of losses of Ukrainian public transport due to Russian aggression. According to him, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has lost over 14,000 buses, trams, and trolleybuses.
STIB CEO Brie de Meeûs noted that the buses will be delivered to Ukraine in several convoys of 8-10 vehicles due to complex logistics. He also did not rule out new deliveries in the future, as by 2035 Brussels plans to completely renew its fleet of 800 buses, most of which could be transferred or sold.
