The United States remains committed to holding Russia accountable for war crimes committed during its war against Ukraine and reaffirmed its commitment to bringing justice to the passengers of flight MH17, which was shot down in eastern Ukraine a decade ago. This was stated in a statement by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on July 17, UNN reports.
Today, we reaffirm our commitment to bringing justice to the passengers of flight MH17, whose lives were senselessly cut short. In 2022, the District Court of The Hague convicted three members of Russian proxies in eastern Ukraine for their role in the downing of the plane. While this is an important step, there is still much work to be done to ensure that all those responsible for the downing of MH17 are brought to justice and that some measure of justice is achieved for the 298 innocent passengers and crew who lost their lives on July 17, 2014
The U.S. Secretary of State noted that "the commemoration of the tenth anniversary of this tragedy takes place in the shadow of Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine, which continues to inflict severe damage on the Ukrainian people.
