O.J. Simpson, an American football player and actor suspected in a high-profile murder case, has died. He was 76 years old, reports UNN with reference to the BBC.
Details
Simpson played the role of Detective Nordberg in the movie The Naked Gun, but it was a murder case that brought him worldwide fame in the mid-90s.
The former footballer was accused of the premeditated double murder of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. As a result, the jury found him not guilty.
The trial was highly publicized, with every step of the defense and prosecution covered by the media. The first season of the television series American Crime Story was dedicated to this case.
Later, the family of the deceased Goldman managed to win a civil lawsuit against the former football player. The court then found Simpson liable for Goldman's death and ordered him to pay $33.5 million.
In 2008, Simpson was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping and sentenced to 33 years. In 2017, he was pardoned and released.
