Today, on April 11, all fans of military equipment can join the celebration of Submarine Day, UNN reports.

It was on April 11, 1900 year, that the first submarine was launched in the United States, designed by the inventor John Philip Holland.

The 16-meter submarine was equipped with a gasoline internal combustion engine for surface navigation and a battery-powered electric motor for underwater navigation.

The idea of creating a vehicle that could travel underwater dates back to ancient times. It is believed that Alexander the Great's army had engineers who designed several devices that allowed a person to move underwater for several minutes.

The first working prototype of the submarine was created in 1620 by the inventor Cornelius Drebbel for King James I of England.

In 1801, American inventor Robert Fulton built two of his working prototypes of a submarine and presented them to Napoleon Bonaparte.

Several prototype submarines were used in combat during the US Civil War.

The outbreak of World War I stimulated the production and improvement of submarine designs.

On January 21, 1954, the world's first nuclear-powered submarine, the Nautilus, was launched and accepted into the U.S. Navy.

Cartoon fans can join the Anime Day today

Anime is a Japanese animation that is characterized by a more adult orientation. This style has many genres. Both series and films are created, and most often Japanese comics are adapted into anime. An anime fan is, in turn, a fan of anime art.

On Anime Day, fans of Japanese animation gather and organize various themed contests, promotions, flash mobs, mass anime screenings, costume parties, etc.

Today, fans of old music recordings can celebrate the Day of Memory of Music on Cassette Carriers or the Day of the Eight-Track Tape.

The cassette was invented in 1962 by the Belgian team of Phillips, introduced to the European market in 1963, and appeared in America in November 1964.

Stereo 8-track cassette cartridges (commonly known as 8-track) were introduced to the US market in 1965. Like cassette tape, 8-track tape is a magnetic analog music device.

But from its inception until it was replaced by the compact cassette, the 8-track tape had a lifespan of almost 20 years and was used by millions of people.

Also today, on the Thursday of the second full week of April, the International Day of Special Libraries is celebrated, established in 1991.

Special librarians are experts in a particular subject area and provide specialized information services to their organizations, clients, or users. Specialists work in a variety of settings, including corporations, government agencies, research institutions, nonprofit organizations, and libraries.

According to the church calendar, today is the Day of Remembrance of the Holy Martyr Antipas of Pergamum.

Antipas lived during the time of the Roman Emperor Nero and was a disciple of John the Theologian. He held secret services, preached, and converted people to Christianity.

Pagan priests seized Antipas and threw him into a hot furnace. According to legend, the fire did not touch the preacher's body, and he died of natural causes.

At night, the body of Antipas was taken by Christians and secretly buried. In the fifth century, churches were built on Antipas' grave. The relics of the martyr are believed to have healing properties.

Antip, Petro Mykolai, and Ivan celebrate their name days on April 11.
