In spring, people may experience allergies primarily due to pollen from trees such as alder, hazel, and birch, as well as increased activity of house dust mites and mold.

In spring, allergies can be primarily to tree pollen: alder, hazel, birch. Household dust mites also become more active in spring. This was told to UNN by pediatrician, allergist, pulmonologist, PhD Maya Ruselyevych and gave advice on what to do in case of allergies.

First of all, it is tree pollen: alder, hazel, birch. These are the first major allergens that cause allergy symptoms in the spring. But house dust mites also become more active in the spring, plus mold. In late spring, we can already notice a reaction to meadow grass pollen. Not only in summer, but also in late spring

- Rusielevych said.

According to her, people can react to allergens in March, April, May, and throughout the summer.

"We can respond in May, April, and March. We can respond all summer long, because the pollinating season in different regions differs depending on the climate, how sunny the weather will be and what will happen with the wind rose," Rusielevych said.

She also told us what to do in case of allergies.

"First of all, you need to seek help from an allergist, have an allergy test, identify the allergen, and rinse your nose with isotonic saline. There are special nasal sprays and nasal showers to illuminate and remove the allergen from the nasal mucosa," Rusielevych said.

According to her, you can also drip artificial tears into your eyes, take antihistamines orally that are allowed by age.

"They can be taken for a long time, they are not sedative, have few side effects, and relieve allergy symptoms properly. If antihistamines are not enough, the doctor may prescribe topical steroids, which can be drugs in the nose or eyes," Rusielevych said.

The allergist noted that, if necessary, she adds more combination drugs and vasoconstrictors.

"But the main thing is to seek help from a doctor and identify the allergen, because the only method of treating allergies is allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT), which is performed by an allergist," Ruselyevych emphasized.
