The first round of the UPL saw a zero-all draw, a landslide victory for Shakhtar, and dramatic match finishes. Kryvbas, LNZ, and Zorya won in the last minutes.

For the third time in a row, the start of the 33rd season of the Ukrainian Premier League (UPL) began with a zero-zero draw - this time in the match between Veres and Karpaty. UNN tells about all the results of the first round of the new UPL season.

Details

On August 3, Veres Rivne and Karpaty Lviv opened the new season with a tie. Traditionally, the new season started with a zero-all draw. The first round also saw Shakhtar's first crushing victory against Vorskla, two victories in the time added by the referee, and a productive draw in the Obolon vs Kolos match.

Veres vs Karpaty

The local Veres and Lviv's Karpaty opened the new season at Rivne's Avangard. The first match of the new season ended with "dry zeros" on the scoreboard.

In the 12th minute of the match, Vitaliy Dakhnovsky could have opened the scoring, but Karpaty goalkeeper Oleksandr Kemkin reacted well.

In the 25th minute, Veres players ran out on the counterattack. Dakhnovsky passed to Vladyslav Sharay, but Vladyslav Baboglo blocked the ball in a fall.

At the end of the first half, Veres managed to organize a positional attack, in which Yevhen Morozko passed the ball down the flank at speed, passed to Mrvalevych, who shot at the Karpaty goalkeeper.

In the 65th minute, Veres had a great opportunity to take the lead. Kemkin unsuccessfully kicked the ball, which flew straight to Dakhnovsky. He passed the ball from the left flank to Stepaniuk, who passed it to Yago - the Brazilian shot from 11 meters strongly, but over the crossbar.

Despite Veres' chances, neither team managed to score a goal.

For the third season in a row, the UPL opens with a dry draw: at the start of the 2022/23 competition year, Shakhtar and Metalist 1925 did not score goals, and in the 2023/24 season, Obolon and Kolos did not score goals.

Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih and Chornomorets Odesa played the second match of the first round of the UPL and the final game of the day.

Already in the debut of the match, Kryvbas midfielder Yehor Tverdokhlib scored the first goal of the new UPL season, successfully closing the pass from the flank of Denys Kuzyk with his head.

In the 14th minute, Kryvbas defender Tymur Stetskov could have doubled his team's lead, but the ball hit the post after a long shot.

In the 21st minute, Bandeira headed in a cross from the flank from a few meters out, but Chornomorets goalkeeper Artur Rudko made a good save and prevented Kryvbas from doubling their lead.

A few minutes later, the scorer of the first goal had a shot at Chornomorets' goal, but the ball flew over.

In the 32nd minute, Kryvbas striker Adu took a shot from a sharp angle, but the leather went past the goal.

"Chornomorets could have won back in the first half thanks to Khoblenko's efforts, but the ball hit the crossbar after a free kick.

In the 51st minute, Kryvbas managed to score, but the goal was canceled due to offside.

In the 55th minute, Adu shook Savchenko and broke into the penalty area from the right flank, then fired a shot. Rudko knocked it out, but Dibango won the rebound and shot from the left edge. It went over the top.

In the 62nd minute, a Chornomorets defender, after a shot from the flank, almost "cut" the ball into his own net, but he was lucky, the ball went past the goal.

By the end of the match, despite having the advantage in the match, which is confirmed by the statistics - 23 shots (4 on target) for Kryvbas and 6 shots (0 on target) for Chornomorets - the players had several more great chances to double their advantage, but the ball did not go in the net.

In this way, the Kryvyi Rih team cheered themselves up before their next game in the Europa League qualifiers against Czech side Viktoria Plzen.

"LNZ" - "Left Bank"

The second day of the first round was opened by Cherkasy's LNZ and the UPL debutant, the capital's Left Bank, in Cherkasy at the Central Stadium.

LNZ could have opened the scoring in the 6th minute of the match. LNZ newcomer Mark Assinore successfully received the ball in the center of the field, dribbled to the penalty area and scored from long range. Left Bank goalkeeper Maksym Mekhaniv reacted to the shot.

He saved his team Mekhaniv 4 minutes later, deflecting a shot by Yashari.

In the 21st minute, Left Bank striker Vladyslav Voitsekhovsky had a real chance to open the scoring and score his debut goal in the UPL, as he was virtually alone with the goalkeeper, but Kucherenko did not allow himself to be beaten.

In the 32nd minute, LNZ had a super moment. After a corner kick, the ball flew to Aidy Daiko, who dumped it to Haidin Salih, who in turn shot on goal, the ball stuck somewhere in the legs of the defenders almost on the goal line. Suarez could have scored, but he was too short and couldn't get his head up to make a header.

At the end of the first half, the Left Bank players managed to run out on the counterattack. The player of the capital's club passed the ball down the flank and accurately passed the ball to Wojciechowski, who threw the defender, fell on the keeper, but again did not beat Kucherenko.

At the beginning of the second half, Assinore had another opportunity to open the scoring.

Yashari fired into the penalty area, Assinore flew in, but for some reason decided not to shoot, but to handle the ball, missing the moment to shoot.

In the 64th minute, Suarez probably had the best chance to open the scoring. Yashari fired dangerously into the penalty area, the Left Bank goalkeeper deflected the ball, but it flew to Suarez, who threw the ball straight at Mechaniv from a sharp angle.

In the 79th minute, Left Bank took a corner kick. The ball went to Banada, who shot on goal, hitting Saliha, the ball reached Kolesnyk, who shot past the goal from 8 meters. A dangerous moment for the Left Bank.

In the 3rd minute of the second half, Cherkasy earned a free kick. After the penalty kick, there was a commotion in the penalty area, where LNZ striker Assinor proved to be the most agile, shooting into the Mechaniv goal. Thus, Assinor snatched three points for his team - 1: 0

Vorskla vs Shakhtar

Another match was played in Poltava at the Oleksiy Butovsky Stadium between the local team Vorskla and Shakhtar Donetsk. The Donetsk team immediately rushed to defend last year's title.

Already in the 9th minute of the match, Shakhtar captain Matvienko scored an impressive 35-yard shot. The ball followed a perfect trajectory off Isenko and flew into the goal off the post - 1-0.

In the 32nd minute, Shakhtar managed to double their lead. Heorhiy Sudakov received the ball in the center of the field, stretched it out and passed it to Kevin on the left. Kevin burst into the penalty area, held the ball for a bit and gently threw it onto the head of Oleksandr Zubkov, who only had to hit the goal, which he did - 2-0.

After the break, Vorskla became somewhat more active, creating a chance for Vorskla debutant Oleksandr Chornomorets to score. Denys Ndukwe passed directly to Chornomorets, who hit the crossbar from a few meters.

In the 47th minute, Shakhtar's forward Kevin found an opportunity to shoot surrounded by several defenders, but missed the far corner.

Vorskla could have gotten back one goal in the 63rd minute, but Ilya Krupsky, who broke in at the far post after a corner, failed to close the gap accurately and shot wide.

Within 2 minutes, Mykola Matvienko found Eginalda with a long pass, and the Brazilian was cut off in the penalty area by Yevhen Pavliuk. The referee awarded a penalty kick, which was successfully converted by Heorhii Sudakov, who scored in the bottom left corner. Vorskla goalkeeper Pavlo Isenko guessed the direction of the shot, but did not have time to react - 3: 0.

Shakhtar scored the fourth goal a minute after the third. Pavlyuk, who had earned a penalty a minute earlier, passed the ball straight to the feet of Matvienko, who hit the ball into the net, thus scoring a double, which is not typical for players in his position.

In the 83rd minute, Sudakov could have scored a double, but Isenko stood in the way, pulling the ball out of the far corner.

Two minutes later, Vorskla could have scored a prestige goal, but Poltava captain Ihor Perduta missed the left corner.

In the 88th minute, Danylo Sikan, who returned from the Olympic Games in Paris, put the final score on the board at 5-0. Pedrino, having given a fine pass to Sikan, brought the latter one-on-one with Isenko, who made no mistake from a deadly position.

It should be noted that before the match, Vorskla's fans had a nice moment. Before the kickoff, a ceremony was held to honor defender Volodymyr Chesnakov, who played 416 matches for the Poltava team. The Vorskla captain officially said goodbye to football. The defender plans to continue working for Serhiy Dolgansky's coaching staff.

Obolon vs Kolos

In parallel with the Vorskla vs Shakhtar match, another match between Kyiv's Obolon and Kovaliv's Kolos started at the Obolon Arena stadium in Kyiv.

The first 30 minutes of the match were calm, organizing positional attacks, as evidenced by the statistics of the first half - 5 shots by Obolon (3 on target), 1 shot by Kolos

In the 30th minute, Kolos striker Daniel Alefirenko successfully shot into the bottom corner of Oleksandr Rybka's goal, but the goal was canceled due to offside.

At the end of the first half, Valeriy Dubko could have put Obolon ahead, but he shot straight into the hands of the Kolos goalkeeper after a corner kick.

Kovalivka managed to take the lead at halftime. In the 47th minute, Kolos' Georgian newcomer Nika Gagnidze passed the ball down the flank, moved to the penalty area, and gave a penetrating pass into the penalty area, where Kolos' left back Andriy Tsurikov was quicker than Kolos' left back, who had to score, which he did, hitting it past Oleksandr Rybka - 1-0.

"Obolon got its chance in the 50th minute, but Taras Moroz fired a long shot over the goal from the area in front of the penalty area off a rebound from Slobodian.

In the 59th minute of the match, Ruslan Chernenko equalized the score. Ihor Medynskyi made a cross from the right flank to the near side of the penalty area, where Chernenko stopped it with his first touch and scored in the far corner with his second. This goal can compete in beauty with Mykola Matvienko's goal in the Shakhtar vs Vorskla match.

After 10 minutes, Oleh Slobodyan put Obolon ahead. Slobodian outpaced Kolos defenders on the near post in the penalty area and accurately closed Valeriy Lukyanchuk's pass from the right flank in the fall.

"Kolos had an opportunity to score in the 80th minute, but Tsurikov's shot failed to be closed by Tretyakov, who did not hit the goal properly.

In 3 minutes, Kolos could have scored again. Luchkevych caught up with the ball on the flank, passed it into the penalty area, where Vladyslav Velyten picked it up. Having beaten several Obolon defenders, Velyten fired along the penalty area, but Tsurikov lacked a few centimeters to close the ball.

However, two minutes later, Tsurikov took full advantage of his chance. After a corner kick, the ball flew to Tretyakov, who shot at Obolon's goal, but thanks to a ricochet, the ball flew right to Tsurikov's foot, who touched the ball past the goalkeeper, setting the final score on the scoreboard.

Already in the debut of the match, Luhansk made a great attack, which ended with a shot from the penalty area by Roman Antyukh, but Oleksiy Palamarchuk managed to react and repel the ball, and none of Denys's partners were there to finish.

In the 13th minute, after a Luhansk cutback, Ingulets players ran into an attack that ended with a shot from the right flank by Oleksandr Kozak, after which Yaroslav Bohunov shot almost at close range, but Mykyta Turbayevsky managed to react and deflect the ball.

In the 16th minute, Zorya's newcomer, Croatian Jakov Bašić, opened the scoring in the match, scoring another beautiful goal on the tour. Denys Antyukh ran down the left flank and received a pass from his own half of the field, passed it closer to the center to Yatsyk, and he rolled it back to Basic, who put the ball in the net with a precise shot from outside the penalty area - 1: 0.

In the 26th minute of the match, Maksym Melnychuk could have equalized the score in the match, who was in the right place after a pass from Roman Volokhaty, but the team's defender sent the ball over the crossbar

Three minutes later, Volodymyr Bilotserkovets scored Zorya's first goal after returning to the UPL. Oleksandr Pyatov received the ball in the center of the field, came closer to the goal and passed to Bilotserkovets, who won the fight against Vantukh and sent the ball under the far post, bypassing Turbayevsky - 1: 1.

The match was coming to an end, but neither team could capitalize on their chances. In the time added by the referee, Oleksandr Yatsyk, on loan from Dynamo Kyiv, put Luhansk ahead. Antyukh broke through on the left flank, outplayed two opponents and made a cross into the penalty area, where the opponents lost Yatsyk and Oleksandr sent the ball into the net with an accurate header into the far corner, setting the final score on the scoreboard - 2: 1.
