Two transformers exploded at the South Ukrainian NPP due to an abnormal heat wave, which led to a 12-hour shutdown of the reactors. Energoatom promptly eliminated the consequences of the accident, returning the 1000 MW unit to the grid.

On the night of July 16, the reactors of the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant did not work for almost 12 hours due to an emergency situation. This is reported by NV with reference to the information of the publication's interlocutors in the Rada, UNN reports.

It is noted that two transformers have failed at the NPP.

A source in the energy industry said that oil tanks in two high-voltage transformers exploded at the plant's substation due to overheating caused by the heat.

“Yes, the transformers did fail. They burned down. This had a further effect, and a 1,000 MW unit went offline. It was returned to the grid in a day. The main reason is the abnormal heat,” a source from the Servant of the People leadership told the publication.

However, Energoatom employees promptly eliminated the consequences of the accident during the day.
