Police and rescuers immediately began to eliminate the consequences of the incident. The Situation Center reported “huge damage” and “a large amount of rubble” that had to be cleared as a matter of priority. The explosion occurred at around 17:20, severely damaging the surrounding buildings.
Police and rescuers are being deployed to the scene. Emergency services from neighboring Baden-Württemberg arrived to help. A helicopter circled the city, and in the early evening, police set up a media gathering point to coordinate the work of journalists.
