On Friday evening, the police situation center reported that the whereabouts of at least two people were still unknown. The explosion also caused significant damage to neighboring buildings.
Police and rescuers immediately began to eliminate the consequences of the incident. The Situation Center reported “huge damage” and “a large amount of rubble” that had to be cleared as a matter of priority. The explosion occurred at around 17:20, severely damaging the surrounding buildings.
Police and rescuers are being deployed to the scene. Emergency services from neighboring Baden-Württemberg arrived to help. A helicopter circled the city, and in the early evening, police set up a media gathering point to coordinate the work of journalists.
