President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Admiral Robert Bauer. The parties discussed Ukraine's priority defense needs, opportunities to strengthen the Alliance's coordination role in supporting Ukraine, and expectations for the upcoming NATO summit in Washington. This is stated on the official website of the President, UNN reports.
"Thank you for your first visit to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war. This is a serious signal of support for our society. The support of NATO and its member states is, above all, very important for the morale of our soldiers and civilian Ukrainians. We really appreciate the fact that we can count on you," Zelenskyy said.
The President briefed Bauer on Ukraine's priority defense needs and emphasized the urgent need for additional air defense systems to reliably protect Ukrainians from constant missile and drone attacks.
The parties also discussed opportunities to enhance the Alliance's coordination role in supporting Ukraine, including strengthening existing defense capabilities and developing Ukraine's future military capabilities in line with NATO interoperability standards and requirements.
"We are counting on fair assessments of our country's achievements and the decisions of the Washington summit that will bring Ukraine closer to membership in the Alliance," Zelenskyy said.
