An X-101 air-launched cruise missile fired by Russia at Ukraine malfunctions and crashes in a field in the Volgograd region of Russia.

An X-101 air-launched cruise missile fired at Ukraine fell in the Volgograd region of Russia. This was reported by "Militarny", writes UNN

The wreckage of the missile was found in a field in the Yelansky district of the Volgograd region of Russia.

According to the newspaper, it is likely that after being launched from a Russian X-101 bomber, the missile fell and broke into several pieces after flying for some time.

It is noted that the cause of the crash is unknown. The missile body shows no signs of air defense damage, which may indicate that the missile was malfunctioning or damaged during or immediately after launch.

Oleksandr Ruvin, Director of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, previously said that Russian missiles are becoming less efficient and fail to reach their targets. This is primarily due to technical aspects, production shortcomings, problems with the supply of electronic components, or poor quality materials.

According to him, studies of parts and fragments of Russian missiles show that there is no standard set of components in the same type of weapon.

"In fact, this means that they are not able to manufacture weapons on an assembly line, and each individual unit is assembled from existing materials. One component from the control system, for example, a single chip responsible for a certain function, is replaced by an assembly of several elements assembled almost by hand. It should provide the same function, but in practice it is of lower quality. In each individual object that comes for examination, this arrangement is different, selected from what they have available. Accordingly, these assemblies are of lower quality, the weapon loses its effectiveness, but does not cease to be dangerous," noted Ruvin.
