Ukraine and Poland held government consultations in Warsaw to resolve issues such as the situation at the border and agricultural trade, the government's press service said on Thursday, UNN reported.

Ukrainian-Polish government consultations took place in Warsaw on March 28. The Ukrainian delegation was headed by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

"Ukraine and Poland are strategic allies. We must clearly understand how important mutual support and the potential of our cooperation are," the head of the Ukrainian government emphasized.

Shmyhal said that the government teams of both countries discussed a number of issues of mutual interest in cooperation. "In particular, much attention was paid to such complex topics as the situation at the border and trade in the agricultural sector, and the direction of resolving these issues was determined," the government said.

We expect concrete responses from Poland to the steps we have proposed. Most of them have already been implemented. We expect the European Commission to ban the transit and export of goods from Russia and Belarus, as well as to approve our agreement on joint control at checkpoints

- said the Prime Minister of Ukraine.

He emphasized that strategic relations involve mutual trust and openness, the ability to engage in dialogue and compromise.

We hope that today's consultations will bring results and we will find ways to resolve the problematic issues

- Shmyhal pointed out.

Following the intergovernmental consultations, a joint statement was adopted .

In particular, it states that the parties:

recognized, that trade should be balanced and mutually beneficial for agricultural producers in the Republic of Poland and Ukraine;

emphasized that both sides have already made a lot of efforts to establish fair rules of trade in agri-food products between the Republic of Poland and Ukraine, and that further effective dialogue based on mutual understanding is needed;

agreed to take further steps in finding mutually beneficial solutions, such as verification and control systems, for trade in agri-food products; the ministers responsible for agriculture and trade of both sides will continue their established cooperation on these issues;

agreed that the Solidarity Road Action Plan has been a significant success in ensuring the unimpeded transit of Ukrainian goods through the EU in the face of ongoing full-scale Russian aggression and serious logistical challenges;

reaffirmed their readiness to conclude an agreement on control at joint border crossing points and cooperation of controlling authorities, after its approval by the EU Commission, in order to launch the exchange of logistics data at selected road crossing points, to create and maintain a transport network that meets the needs, including through the implementation of coordinated infrastructure projects;

agreed to amend the intergovernmental agreement of September 9, 2015 to extend the term of payment of contracts for 8 years in order to extend the execution of contracts and increase the volume and quality of crossing the Polish-Ukrainian state border.

A joint meeting of the governments of Ukraine and Poland was scheduled for March 28 in Warsaw. A Ukrainian government delegation headed by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal arrived in Warsaw. The head of the government stated his expectation of "effective solutions".
