The animated film "Toy Story 5" from Pixar Studios became the most successful debut of 2026 in US and Canadian theaters, grossing $160 million over its opening weekend. This is reported by Bloomberg, writes UNN.

Details

The film surpassed the previous record holder of the year – the movie "Super Mario," which was released in April. At the same time, this is the best start in the history of the "Toy Story" franchise, which dates back to 1995.

Additionally, the film achieved the second-best debut result in Pixar's history, trailing only "Incredibles 2," which was released in 2018.

The film's success strengthened Pixar's position

According to Bloomberg, "Toy Story 5" received positive reviews from critics and was released ahead of the long holiday weekend in the US. Additional attention to the film was drawn by the involvement of Taylor Swift, whose song was included in the film's soundtrack.

The film's success continued Pixar's recovery after several difficult years. Earlier, an important step for the studio was the triumph of "Inside Out 2," which grossed $1.7 billion worldwide in 2024.

Analysts expect that, together with the upcoming premieres of "Spider-Man: New Day" and Christopher Nolan's "Odyssey," the summer season in North American theaters could bring in between $4.1 and $4.3 billion in box office revenue.
