Stocks of American PAC-3 anti-ballistic missiles for Patriot have shrunk to approximately 800 units. Restoring stocks could take about 2.5 years.

The stockpile of American PAC-3 anti-ballistic missiles for Patriot air defense systems has decreased to approximately 759-827 units, which amounts to about 13 missiles per system. This was reported by Defense Express, citing a new report from the American analytical center CSIS, writes UNN.

Details

According to analysts' estimates, since April, the stockpile of PAC-3 has decreased by another approximately 200 missiles. Overall, since the beginning of 2026, their number has decreased by almost two-thirds.

As Defense Express notes, with current stockpiles, each American Patriot system has only about 13 anti-ballistic missiles. Given that one launcher can carry up to six PAC-3 MSE missiles, this is enough to fully load only about two launchers out of the six to eight that are part of a standard battery composition.

Restoring stockpiles could take years

According to CSIS data, in 2025, the United States produced 620 PAC-3 missiles. At this pace, it would take about 2.5 years to return stockpiles to the level of early 2026, even if all new missiles are directed exclusively to replenish American arsenals and are not used in combat operations.

At the same time, the report does not account for PAC-2 missiles, of which, according to estimates, the US may have up to 400 units remaining. However, Defense Express notes that their capabilities for intercepting ballistic targets are significantly inferior to modern PAC-3, and some of these munitions may also have been used during combat operations.

Additionally, CSIS analysts estimate the remaining missiles for THAAD systems at 234–278 units.

Earlier, Lockheed Martin received a contract worth $58.62 billion, which provides for an almost threefold increase in PAC-3 MSE production. The program is designed for seven years and is expected to bring production to about 2,000 missiles per year.
