America's first commercial-scale offshore wind farm is officially open, a long-awaited moment that helps pave the way for a number of large wind farms, the AR reported, UNN reports.
Details
It is noted that it is located off the coast of New York State and is called South Fork Wind.
The wind farm was built by Danish Orsted and American Eversource Energy and has 12 wind turbines from German Siemens Gamesa with a total capacity of 132 MW, which is enough to supply electricity to more than 70 thousand families.
The plant began generating clean energy for the grid of Long Island, 35 miles (56 km) away.
