Romania’s National Committee for Emergency Situations approved new measures to raise the water level in the Danube River and ensure cooling for the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, the country’s government reported on Saturday, UNN writes, citing Reuters.

The plant remains shut down due to historically low water levels in the Danube, and the country declared a state of emergency throughout August because of reduced electricity generation.
Emergency dredging of the Danube riverbed near the plant is planned.
A groyne will be built along the Old Danube riverbed to divert water toward the water-intake area for the plant’s cooling systems.
The hydropower plant operator Hidroelectrica will begin releasing water from reservoirs on the Olt River on Saturday for five days to supplement the Danube’s flow and generate additional electricity.
Powerful pumps will be mobilized to maintain, if necessary, the water level required for the plant’s operation.
