The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe supported a resolution on ensuring food security. The document also condemns Russian aggression, which has damaged Ukraine's agricultural sector.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe supported the resolution "Ensuring Sustainable Food Security in Times of Crisis: Strengthening Resilience and Access to Food". This document is dedicated to the consequences of wars, climate change, and economic crises on people's access to food. This was reported on Telegram by Ukrainian People's Deputy Maria Mezentseva, reports UNN.

Details

As Mezentseva noted, the right to food is a fundamental human right and is under threat due to wars, climate shocks, and the rising cost of living.

Special attention in the text of the document is given to Ukraine. The resolution states that Russian aggression has caused large-scale damage to the agricultural sector:

  • agricultural infrastructure has been destroyed;
    • global food supply chains have been disrupted;
      • significant areas of land have been mined;
        • attacks on port infrastructure and export routes continue.

          PACE condemned the theft and illegal export of Ukrainian grain by Russians from temporarily occupied territories. The Assembly called on member states to support:

          • Ukraine's agricultural recovery in 2026-2028;
            • the Food from Ukraine program;
              • humanitarian programs of the UN World Food Programme;
                • international mechanisms for documenting damages caused to the agricultural sector.

                  The document also calls for supporting the work of the International Criminal Court and ensuring compensation for damages caused by aggressor states. It separately emphasizes the need to support the Ukrainian maritime corridor and the "Solidarity Lanes" between the EU and Ukraine for the stability of the global food market.
