Over two-thirds of diaspora schools do not teach Ukrainian history - UWC

Currently 67% of diaspora schools do not have such an academic discipline as the history of Ukraine in their curriculum. This was stated by the head of the World Coordinating Educational Council of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC WCEC), Liubov Lyubchyk, UNN reports with reference to the UWC website .

This information was shared by the UWC President during a panel discussion "Ukrainian Schools Abroad: A Vector for Preserving Ukrainian Identity" at the UWC Summit in Bucharest. 

It is noted that they are working to do everything possible to ensure that children can receive Ukrainian education and study in Ukrainian schools abroad, while preserving their national identity.

Liubov Lyubchyk presented the key educational projects and initiatives of the UWC aimed at ensuring quality education and voiced the recommendation of the UWC to include the history of Ukraine in the list of Ukrainian studies subjects for study in diaspora schools.

Also at the educational session, the structure and concept of the Information and Methodological Manual on the History of Ukraine was presented to help educators in the diaspora, which will be presented for testing in September 2024.

The conversation was moderated by UWC Vice President Natalie Poshyvaylo-Towler.
