In the first 10 months of 2024, only 1.3% of desertion cases went to court, UNN  reports, citing Opendatabot.

Details

In 10 months of 2024, 19,922 criminal proceedings related to desertion were opened. The number of deserters is increasing every year. For example, compared to the same period last year, the number of such cases increased by 3.7 times. Only 3% of the cases this year have been served with a notice of suspicion, and only 1.3% of the cases have gone to trial.

Servicemen who, during martial law, left their place of service without permission or deserted for the first time, may voluntarily return to service by January 1, 2025, and will be exempt from criminal liability - their cases will be closed.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, about 8,000 servicemen have already taken advantage of this opportunity in the past three months.

Recall

Almost 4,000 servicemen have applied to return to service after deserting, half of them have already been granted. The soldiers who return before January 1, 2025, will be exempt from criminal liability.
