The National Bank of Ukraine has issued a commemorative 5-hryvnia coin "Chornobyl. Revival. Black Stork", dedicated to the 38th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster and the revival of wildlife in the Chornobyl reserve.

The National Bank of Ukraine has put into circulation a commemorative coin to mark the 38th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster. The Mint has issued a 5-hryvnia coin "Chornobyl. Revival. Black Stork". This is the fourth coin in a series dedicated to the revival of wildlife in the Chornobyl reserve. This was reported by UNN with reference to the NBU press service.

Today, on the 38th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster, the NBU is putting into circulation a commemorative coin "Chornobyl. Revival. Black Stork". This is the fourth coin in a series dedicated to the revival of wildlife in the Chornobyl Reserve.

 , the NBU noted.

Details

The NBU explained that the black stork was chosen for the coin for a reason. It is a rare bird that has become one of the symbols of the revival of life in the Chornobyl zone.

The black stork is listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and the European Red List, and is protected by the Bern and Bonn Conventions.

It is one of two species of storks found in the fauna of Ukraine. It settles mainly near forest lakes or forest swamps. Unlike the white stork, this bird is very cautious and tries to avoid people, so it is very rare to see representatives of its species.

- the NBU said.

Currently, the population of this bird on the territory of the Chornobyl Reserve is growing. This indicates the restoration of the region's ecosystem and the fact that the reserve is becoming a center of biodiversity even in the face of radiation contamination.

The reverse of the coin depicts a black stork against a landscape, with chicks in a nest above it.

On the obverse, in the center, there is a symbolic wheel of life that signifies the revival of nature: a stylized international sign "Radiation Threat", surrounded by foliage, with animals whose populations are developing in the 30-kilometer exclusion zone, including a black stork, Przewalski's horse, lynx, bison, elk, and brown bear.

The face value of the commemorative coin is UAH 5.

It is made of nesilber.

The print run is 40,000 copies (including 20,000 copies in souvenir packaging).

You can buy it starting today at 10:00 a.m. in the NBU's online store

The commemorative coins can also be purchased at distributor banks (JSC JSB UKRGASBANK, JSC JSB RADABANK, JSC TASKOMBANK, JSC CB PrivatBank) as they are shipped by the NBU Mint.
