A former law enforcement officer who was in charge of "torture chambers" in the captured Luhansk region has been served with a notice of suspicion, the Luhansk Regional Prosecutor's Office has informed UNN.

Details

"The resident of Luhansk was served a notice of suspicion of voluntarily holding a position in an illegal law enforcement agency established on the temporarily occupied territory (Part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the statement reads.

According to the investigation, the former law enforcement officer began cooperating with the occupiers in 2014.

It is noted that the man went over to the side of the enemy, swearing allegiance to it. "Before the full-scale Russian invasion, he was a member of the illegal armed groups and fought against the Ukrainian military, then he served in the 'bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the LPR'. From the fall of 2022 to the beginning of 2024, he was "the head of the department of the federal penitentiary service of Russia for the lPR," the department said.

"He was in direct charge of the 'torture chambers' in the occupied Luhansk region, where Ukrainian citizens were illegally detained," the prosecutor's office said.

The suspect is currently wanted and the issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided.
