In the Prykarpattia region, law enforcement officers uncovered an attempt to hand over a newborn child for 20 thousand dollars. According to the investigation, a 30-year-old resident of the Kyiv region tried to conceal the possible sale of the baby under the guise of surrogacy. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, writes UNN.
According to the investigation, a 30-year-old resident of the Kyiv region, who already has five minor children, decided to sell her future son as early as the sixth month of pregnancy. She set the price for the baby at 20 thousand US dollars
To hide the true nature of the "deal," the woman tried to pass off the sale of the child as alleged surrogacy. On social media, she wrote that she was supposedly carrying someone else's child, abandoned by the biological parents, and was looking for a couple for further adoption.
A resident of Ivano-Frankivsk responded to the advertisement. First, she paid for the pregnant woman's bus ticket to the city, and after her arrival - for a medical examination, apartment rental, food, medicine, and prenatal expenses.
Also, according to the investigation, she transferred 10 thousand UAH as a deposit.
On July 2, 2026, at the city perinatal center, the suspect gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
The very next day, right in the ward, the women retroactively signed a fictitious surrogacy agreement.
The document was intended to create the appearance that the mother had supposedly carried the child for the "genetic parents" and was handing it over on legal grounds.
The final handover was to take place on July 6 in the courtyard of the perinatal center.
The suspect handed over the newborn boy, received 20 thousand US dollars, and gave a receipt stating that she would have no further claims on the child in the future.
Immediately after this, she was detained by law enforcement officers.
Prosecutors of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor's Office notified the woman of suspicion of human trafficking committed against a minor (Part 3 of Article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for up to 15 years of imprisonment.
A preventive measure has been chosen for the suspect - detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of half a million hryvnias. Currently, the woman is in a pre-trial detention center.
In addition to her newborn son, the suspect has five more children. Only her youngest three-year-old son lives with her; the other four children live with their grandmother in the Kyiv region.
Specialized services are currently handling the fate of the suspect's children and the protection of the infant.
According to the investigation, the suspect's husband and parents knew about her intention. Searches were conducted at their place of residence.
