In the center of Chisinau, a man inside a car began firing at people with a hunting rifle. As reported by Ziarul de Gardă, the incident occurred on the night of May 15-16. The man was detained. According to the police, he was intoxicated and did not have a permit to carry a hunting weapon, reports UNN with reference to NewsMaker.
According to ZDG, the detainee is Anatolie Macovei, the former head of the witness protection department of the National Investigation Inspectorate. In 2016, he was appointed to this position by order of the then-deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate, Gheorghe Cavcaliuc.

Previously, Anatolie Macovei worked at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, including serving as the deputy commander of the Fulger special brigade. After leaving the system, he worked at BCR Chisinau, then returned to the police.
His name was previously mentioned in several public scandals, including conflicts and incidents reported by the media in 2015–2016.
