The Order of the White Eagle, returned by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will be handed over for permanent storage to the Chancellery of the President of Poland. This award will not be presented to anyone again, said the spokesman for the Polish president, Rafał Leszczyński, on Polsat News, reports UNN.
Details
The order, which Zelenskyy returned after Polish President Karol Nawrocki's decision to strip him of this award, has already been received by Polish officials.
According to Leszczyński, the award will be handed over to the Bureau of Awards and Nominations, after which it will be kept in the Chancellery of the President.
The order has indeed been returned. Today we collected it from the Chancellery of the President
He explained that after the necessary formalities are completed, the award will be handed over for storage.
It is being handed over for storage, where it will be kept with dignity and respect, as it is the highest and most important state award of Poland. It will not be awarded to anyone else
No further escalation expected in Warsaw
Commenting on the situation surrounding the stripping of Zelenskyy's award and the mass return of Polish decorations by Ukrainian officials, the spokesman for the Polish president said he does not expect further escalation.
I don't think so. Moreover, President Karol Nawrocki clearly stated that the cancellation of the Order of the White Eagle is not directed against Ukrainians
At the same time, he reiterated the Polish side's position that the decision to cancel the award was related to the awarding of an honorary name to one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units in honor of the Heroes of the UPA.
