Medical workers are protesting outside the office of the governor of the city of Bunia—the administrative center of Ituri Province, which accounts for almost 90% of all cases of the disease in the country. They are the latest group of workers to stop working after protests over unpaid salaries began several weeks ago.
According to the medical workers, including nurses providing critically important care to Ebola patients, they have not received their salaries or the allowances provided for working with Ebola since the outbreak was officially declared in mid-May.
