The German automaker Volkswagen (VW) has admitted that hackers stole a large amount of technical information from it ten years ago. The company refused to disclose details of the situation. Earlier, the German publications Der Spiegel and ZDF reported, citing company sources, that between 2010 and 2015, hackers stole up to 19 thousand files with various technical information from VW, UNN reports.

According to them, the hackers were primarily interested in documents in such areas as internal combustion engines, gearboxes, transmissions, as well as data on developments in the field of electric vehicles, batteries for them, etc.
The media outlets, citing cybersecurity experts, suggested that the hackers could have been linked to China.
Among the evidence they cited were Chinese IP addresses, characteristic spyware, and the time when the hackers usually carried out the attacks. The Chinese Embassy in Germany has already called the allegations outrageous and said it condemns any form of cyber espionage.
