Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias called the discovery of an explosive-laden drone near the coast of the popular Ionian island of Lefkada in western Greece a "serious issue" and stated he would raise the matter at a meeting in Brussels today. This was reported by The Guardian, according to UNN.
Details
Greek government officials concluded that the drone was manufactured in Ukraine after a thorough examination by military experts.
"I will have the opportunity to inform my colleagues, in the presence of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, about the data regarding the drone we discovered in Greece," Dendias told reporters upon arriving at the meeting in Brussels.
"You understand that the presence of this UAV affects the freedom of navigation, as well as the safety of shipping. This is an extremely serious matter."
Recall
According to Greek authorities, the drone was found in a cave off the country's west coast with its engine running. Specialists removed the detonators and the battery, after which the drone was detonated in the sea near Astakos.
