The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a draft law on revision of excise tax rates on tobacco products, which provides for a gradual increase in specific excise tax rates on cigarettes by 2028.
This was reported by the permanent representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk, UNN reports.
The Draft Law "On Amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine on Revision of Excise Tax Rates on Tobacco Products" was approved
According to him, the draft law provides for a gradual increase in specific excise tax rates on cigarettes until 2028 to reach the minimum level set by Council Directive 2011/64/EU of 21.06. 2011 on the structure and rates of excise duty on tobacco products (codification), with a simultaneous equivalent increase in such rates for tobacco, industrial tobacco substitutes and a decrease in their amount for tobacco-containing products for electric heating; setting the monetary unit of measurement for the excise tax rate on tobacco products in euros to avoid the impact of inflation on the increase in excise tax rates; clarifying certain provisions of the administration of the excise tax on tobacco products to ensure full application of the law.
