Internet giant Alphabet, Google's parent company, is about to make its biggest acquisition to date.
According to reliable sources, Alphabet is in talks to buy Israeli cybersecurity startup Wiz for the astronomical sum of $23 billion (about 21.1 billion euros).
The amount, nearly double what it cost to buy Motorola Mobility in 2012, would be the most Google has ever paid for another company.
The acquisition attempt was spearheaded by Google Cloud chief Thomas Kurian. If successful, it could help strengthen Google's reputation as a secure cloud platform.
The deal "looks likely" but could fall through, and moreover - risks triggering scrutiny from U.S. regulators. The newspapers recall that the Biden administration has presided over serious antitrust actions. Among them: the U.S. Justice Department's lawsuit over Google Search's deal with Apple; as well as and the Federal Trade Commission's failed attempt to stop Microsoft from buying Activision.
