Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo commented on the interruption of the electricity connection between Finland and Estonia.

Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said on Wednesday that his country's authorities are investigating the cause of the breakdown of an undersea power cable on a line connecting Finland and Estonia. Orpo also wrote a short post on the topic on his X page.

The Prime Minister of Finland noted that the loss of communication would not affect the supply of electricity to Finns.

Context

The Estlink 2 electrical connection between Finland and Estonia was interrupted on Christmas Day at 12:26.

Fingrid's control room manager Arto Pakhkin says the cause of the malfunction is currently being investigated.

We cannot rule out the possibility of vandalism. However, we are currently investigating the situation in general and will inform you of the cause of the malfunction as soon as we know it

- Pakhkin says.

 According to the company, the transmission capacity of the connection at the time of the outage was 658 MW from Finland to Estonia.
