The leopard that attacked an employee in the Odesa zoo was tried to be put to sleep, but to no avail. The animal was outside the enclosure, so the police killed it. This was stated by the director of the zoo, Igor Belyakov, and added that there was no other way out of this situation, reports UNN.
"Our animal care worker Serhiy was injured by a leopard. This happened due to safety violations by our employee. Now the man is in the hospital. It so happened that the leopard was outside the enclosure on the territory of the zoo. Our attempts to put it to sleep, all our efforts, failed. A situation arose when the leopard could be outside the zoo at any moment. This posed an extremely high threat to human life and health," Belyakov said.
Therefore, he said, the police killed the leopard.
"There was no other way out of this situation, as people could have been injured," Belyakov added.
According to him, the wounded employee was taken to a city hospital with multiple wounds to his head, neck, and limbs. He is being provided with all the necessary medical care.
