In 2024, UAH 862.6 billion was allocated for payments to servicemen, which is 70% of the Defense Ministry's budget. This was announced by Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Dzhyhyr in an interview with ArmyInform, reports UNN.
Details
Dzhyhyr explained that the 2024 Defense Ministry budget can be divided into three large packages. This is the approach used by NATO countries to categorize their defense spending.
"So the first and largest is cash support and combat payments. In 2024 (according to the Law of Ukraine "On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2024" - ed. - ed.), allocations in the amount of 862.6 billion hryvnias have been allocated for this purpose, which is more than 70% of the budget of the Ministry of Defense," noted Dzhyhyr.
According to him, this block includes salaries for the military, payments to the dead, payments for injuries, for being on the first and second lines of the combat line, food for personnel, clothing, and rewards for destroyed equipment.
At the same time, Dzhyhyr noted that it is necessary to take into account the dynamic situation at the front and the growing needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"If the intensity of hostilities increases and the number of troops increases, it becomes necessary to attract additional funding, which, accordingly, entails changes in the budget and appropriate government decisions," Dzhyhyr said.
