The vast majority of Brovary residents do not support the idea of renaming Brovary to Brovari. People are already accustomed to the current name and do not see any sense in changing it. This was stated by the head of the condominium, a deputy of the Brovary City Council, Halyna Nehoda, in a commentary to UNN.
Details
The deputy and head of the condominium added that it is inappropriate to raise the issue of renaming Brovary now, if only for the reason that it will entail additional financial costs for various institutions, organizations, enterprises, associations, etc.
"It will cost a lot of people a lot of money, because they will have to change all their documents.
The overwhelming majority of the city's residents do not support this idea (renaming the city to Brovari - ed.), the majority are in favor of Brovary. I'm telling you this as a member of the city council of two convocations and the head of an association of apartment building co-owners. People who were born and live in Brovary are already accustomed to the current name," said Halyna Nehoda.
The head of the condominium added that people will fight for the familiar name of their city and expressed hope that the MPs, who will make the final decision, will support them in this.
Optional
The Association of Ukrainian Cities stated that decisions to change the names of settlements must necessarily be made with the opinion of the community in mind. The relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada should contact the relevant local government to obtain the community's position. And then - to take this position into account when preparing a decision on a possible renaming.
Brovary City Council deputy Oleksandr Kashtaniuk believesthat there are no grounds for renaming the city of Brovary to Brovari. The arguments given by the MPs who authored the resolution are pulled out of thin air.
Context
A group of MPs led by a representative of the Voice faction, Roman Lozynskyi, registered a resolution in the Verkhovna Rada to rename Brovary to Brovari.
Local residents, with whom UNN spoke, do not support this idea. In particular, they do not understand where the name "Brovari" came from, which, moreover, does not sound very nice.
