A Boeing 757 cargo plane crashed early Monday morning in Vilnius, killing the pilot. Civilians in nearby buildings were not injured. This is reported by UNN with reference to Delfi and Lrt.
“There were four crew members on the plane - two Spanish citizens, one German and one Lithuanian,” Yulia Samorokovska, spokeswoman for the Vilnius District Police Headquarters, told BNS on Monday.
“One of the Spaniards was killed,” she added.
The plane, which belonged to the German cargo delivery company DHL, crashed around Monday morning. The plane was coming in for landing at Vilnius airport, but, according to preliminary data, several kilometers before the runway, it broke up in midair, fell on the territory of a two-story residential building and caught fire.
No civilians were injured as a result of the crash in Vilnius. Two people from the plane were taken to the hospital, and the search for the third person continues.
The fire at the crash site was localized.
Darius Jauniškis, the head of the State Security Department (SSS), believes that the possibility of terrorism cannot be ruled out.
We see that Russia is becoming more aggressive in a sense, and as you know, foreign partners have also come on the air to talk about the dangers and cases of sabotage or the threat of terrorism
“We cannot rule out this version,” he said.
The head of the DGB said that Lithuania is also cooperating with foreign partners in connection with the disaster.
