European companies continue to supply components to Russian shipyards building naval vessels despite the sanctions, helping Russia to strengthen its military capabilities.

Russian shipyards under international sanctions are currently receiving components from European countries through intermediary firms in Croatia and Italy. These shipyards are engaged in the construction of ships for the Russian navy, including those involved in the war with Ukraine. This was reported by the BBC, according to UNN.

Details

One of these companies, Croatian Adria Winch, specializes in the supply of deck equipment for civilian and military vessels. Despite the sanctions, Adria Winch has been operating in Russia for over twenty years and maintains partnerships with Russian companies.

As part of the import substitution program, in 2016, the company established a joint venture, Adria Winch Zelenodolsk, in which Zelenodolsk Shipyard, a part of the Ak Bars shipbuilding corporation from Tatarstan, participates.

The majority of Adria Winch Zelenodolsk shares are owned by Ak Bars Holding, and the rest are controlled by Adria Winch. Adria Winch is also the sole owner of Adria Winch in Moscow, which also supplies parts to the Zelenodolsk shipyard.

Parts supplied by Adria Winch are used at shipyards to assemble ships of the Russian Navy and other military units. These deliveries are confirmed by information on ship project numbers from customs declarations.

After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, Adria Winch stopped making direct deliveries to the shipyards and began selling parts through Russian subsidiaries.

Adria Winch continues to cooperate with shipyards, supplying them through Adria Winch Zelenodolsk and Adria Winch Moscow.

In addition to Adria Winch, other European companies continue to supply spare parts to the Russian Navy after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
