The new goal is central to the new contribution that the United Kingdom, like other signatories to the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, must make to the United Nations by February 2025.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer set an extremely ambitious goal at the UN Climate Change Conference in Baku - to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by “at least 81%” by 2035 compared to 1990.
The new goal is the central axis of the new Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) that the United Kingdom, like all other signatories to the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, must submit to the United Nations by February.
A global problem also requires global partnership and responsible international cooperation

Stramer called on “all parties to present ambitious goals.
According to Starmer, the British public should not be burdened with a new goal.
“We're not going to tell people how to live their lives. We're not going to tell people what to do,” Starmer said.
