The New York City police are investigating the death of a woman who was set on fire by a man in a subway car in Brooklyn. The suspect has already been arrested. This is reported by the BBC, UNN reports.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch called the incident on Sunday "one of the most heinous crimes that one person can commit against another person.
She said the woman was traveling on the F train to Brooklyn when a man approached her and set her clothes on fire with a lighter. The victim died on the spot, she said.
Later, the man was detained at the second metro station following a tip-off from a group of high school students. A lighter was found in the man's pocket.
According to police, there was no interaction between the woman and the man before the attack. Law enforcement officials do not believe that the two people knew each other.
The man stepped off the train when police officers patrolling the station rushed to put out the fire.
"The police were patrolling the upper level of the station, smelled the smell and saw the smoke and went to investigate," Tish said.
The police are still working to identify the victim and the motives for the attack. They are also still trying to establish whether the victim was asleep when he was set on fire.
It is noted that the suspect emigrated from Guatemala to the United States in 2018.
