Since February 2024, 143 cases of viral hepatitis A have been registered in the Solotvynska community of Ivano-Frankivsk region. 127 of them were detected in residents of the village of Porohy, including 90 children, UNN reports with reference to Suspilne.
The head of Solotvyno community, Manoliy Pitsuryak, noted that this is the second case of hepatitis outbreak in the community in the last 20 years. Most of the patients are students of the Porohiv Lyceum, which has 540 students.
"The first outbreak of hepatitis was in 2004. More than 160 cases of infection were recorded then. The second one started in February 2024. Today we have 143 cases in the community, 127 of which are in the village of Porohy. Of these, 90 students are infected. Therefore, we suspended classes in the Porohy Lyceum on March 25, and the children finished the school year remotely," says Pitsuryak.
Between July 20 and 30, six new cases of hepatitis A were reported in Solotvyno, bringing the total number of cases in the village to seven as of August 7. The community is taking measures to prevent the massive spread of the infection.
"We held a meeting of the emergency response team to develop appropriate measures. We also made memos for local residents and warned people over a loudspeaker in the center of the village. We also held a meeting with businessmen working in the trade sector," he added.
He notes that bactericidal lamps have been purchased for the village of Porohy, and UAH 100 thousand have been allocated for the purchase of vaccines. To localize the infection, 100 doses of hepatitis A vaccine have already been purchased.

Also, an outbreak of acute hepatitis A was recorded in Dubno district of Rivne region . At least seven patients have already been reported, including a child.
