On June 23, Ukraine celebrates State Service Day, and according to the new calendar, Kupala Night falls on this evening. The world celebrates International Olympic Day and Women in Engineering Day.

This day is filled with a sporting spirit, honoring civil servants and women engineers, and — most interestingly — according to the new calendar, the most mystical summer holiday of Ukrainians falls on the evening of this day, reports UNN

Civil Service Day

An official professional holiday celebrated annually on June 23. It was established to emphasize the importance of the role of civil service in the process of Ukraine's formation as a sovereign, independent, democratic, and legal state. On this day, all civil servants who ensure the functioning of state institutions through their work are congratulated.

International Olympic Day

A holiday of sports and health, founded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was on June 23, 1894, through the efforts of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, that the IOC was created and the decision to revive the Olympic Games was made. Traditionally, mass runs and sporting events take place around the world on this day.

International Women in Engineering Day

A global initiative aimed at celebrating the outstanding achievements of women in the field of engineering. The holiday is also intended to encourage girls to choose technical specialties and to break down gender stereotypes in STEM professions.

UN Public Service Day

An international holiday that coincides with the Ukrainian one. It celebrates the value of public service to society and recognizes the contribution of civil servants to the development process worldwide.

International Widows' Day

An official UN day established to draw attention to the plight of millions of widows and their children. In many countries around the world, women who have lost their husbands face poverty, discrimination, and deprivation of property rights.

Typewriter Day

It was on June 23, 1868, that American inventor Christopher Latham Sholes received a patent for the first commercially successful typewriter. He also invented the QWERTY keyboard layout, which we still use today on our smartphones and laptops.

National Pink Day

An unofficial holiday in the USA and worldwide, dedicated to all shades of pink — from pastel to bright fuchsia. A great reason to add a little of this color to your wardrobe today.

Eve of the Nativity of John the Baptist (Ivan Kupala)

Since according to the new (New Julian) calendar, the Nativity of John the Baptist has shifted to June 24, the night of June 23 to 24 becomes that very Kupala Night. It is on this evening, according to folk traditions, that wreaths are woven and set afloat on water, Kupala bonfires are lit, and the mythical fern flower is sought.

Day of Remembrance of the Martyr Agrippina (Kylina)

According to the new calendar, the Roman martyr Agrippina (3rd century) is honored. In folk tradition, this day was historically called "Horpyna the Bather," as mass bathing in rivers and preparations for the Kupala holiday began from this day.

Tuesday of the Apostles' Fast

For believers who observe the fast, there is a relaxation: it is allowed to eat hot food with the addition of vegetable oil, as well as mushrooms.
