Details
Today, the U.S. Treasury Department, together with the United Kingdom, announced new bans on the import and use of aluminum, copper and nickel of russian origin.
This initiative is intended to limit the revenues that russia receives from metal exports.
Our new bans on key metals, agreed with our partners in the United Kingdom, will continue to target the revenues that russia can earn to continue its brutal war against Ukraine
Thus, according to the new decree, it is forbidden to import russian aluminum, copper and nickel produced after April 13, 2024. It also prohibits the export, re-export, sale and supply of warranty services and services for the purchase of metals produced after April 13, 2024, to any person in the russian federation.
In addition, the ban applies to global metal exchanges and derivatives trading, emphasizing compliance with the G7 leaders' statements on reducing russia's metal revenues.
Depriving putin of the ability to wage an illegal war in Ukraine is best accomplished by acting together with our allies
As part of this policy, metal exchanges, such as the London Metal Exchange (LME) and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), are no longer accepting new Russian-made aluminum, copper, and nickel.
