In case of sleep disturbances or constant disturbing thoughts, you can consult a family doctor, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine advises, UNN writes.

Details

Among the main complaints about mental health, Ukrainians name anxiety, tension (53%) and sleep disturbances (50%), according to a Gradus Research study conducted in October 2023. At the same time, the majority of people consider such symptoms not worth seeking medical attention, saying that there are more serious problems now.

"However, nowadays, you can go to a family doctor with such and similar complaints. During a routine visit, the doctor can screen for mental disorders, provide practical advice on, for example, improving sleep or reducing anxiety, and, if necessary, refer to a psychologist or psychiatrist," the Ministry of Health says.

Family doctor Yevheniia Tertychna says that the fact that anxiety and sleep disorders can be addressed simply by visiting their family doctor is especially important and convenient for people living in rural areas. "They can talk about their concerns with their doctor, get support and advice. And even after such a simple conversation during an outpatient visit, patients feel relieved. They will understand that mental health is important and needs to be taken care of, and the doctor will explain how," says the specialist.

One of the recommendations in case of inability to concentrate, poor sleep and a lot of thoughts about the future and a feeling of fear, the doctor suggests undergoing a minimum list of examinations to exclude serious pathologies, and at the same time - walking in the fresh air for 15-30 minutes every day, remembering what hobby brought joy and pleasure and trying to return to it, not using gadgets before bed and drinking warm tea with mint at night.

Starting in the new year, according to the Ministry of Health, projects under the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program will be maximized in the regions.

Today, every third primary care hospital provides mental health services to Ukrainians. You can check whether yours is among the medical institutions that provide first aid on the interactive map . Or ask the NHSU hotline operators at 1677.
