Young Ukrainian karting driver Oleksandr Bondarev has been honored by Vroom Karting Magazine as the best international driver of 2023. In this and the previous seasons, the 14-year-old racer is supported by the charity foundation Favbet Foundation, reports UNN.
Voting for the best pilot took place online on the magazine's website. The nominees were drivers who showed good results at the leading FIA Karting and Rotax competitions during the season. Within 4 days, 2,685 fans voted for Alexander Bondarev, which is significantly more than for his closest competitors.
This season, Oleksandr made a significant breakthrough in his career, winning the 2023 European Championship title and becoming the first Ukrainian ever to be signed by the famous Formula 1 team Williams Racing. And all of this despite a serious injury last year that forced him to miss almost the entire competitive season.
"Congratulations to Oleksandr and his team! This season, he showed the character of a true champion who does not retreat from the goal, no matter what happens. We are happy that thanks to the Favbet Foundation, another star of Ukrainian sports is now lighting up," the Favbet Foundation commented.
Favbet Foundation is a charitable foundation founded in 2020 to support initiatives for the comprehensive development of young Ukrainians. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, almost 90% of the foundation's resources have been redirected to help the Armed Forces and Ukrainian citizens affected by the war. Today, the foundation's team is also implementing a large project called the Superheroes Club, which provides sports and educational opportunities for children of military personnel and IDPs.
