According to China's National Meteorological Center, when it made landfall, the typhoon's maximum sustained wind speed reached about 144 km/h, corresponding to a Category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Despite a gradual weakening, forecasters warn that the storm poses a serious threat due to heavy rainfall.
More than 1.7 million people were evacuated from Zhejiang Province, where Taizhou is located. Another over 100,000 people left the neighboring provinces of Fujian and Jiangxi, and about 34,000 from Shanghai.

Earlier, the typhoon passed near Taiwan and Japan's Sakishima Islands. According to Reuters, Japan and Taiwan reported no casualties, but in the Philippines, 17 people died due to heavy rains caused by Bavi's influence. In Taiwan, 113 people were injured, and over 14,000 residents were evacuated from dangerous areas.
