The detainees were accused of preparing materials for the YouTube channel of the Anti-Corruption Foundation founded by Navalny. The courts ruled that Karelin and Gabov should be held in custody for at least two months, pending the completion of the investigation and trial.

The men face 2-6 years in prison for "participation in an extremist organization". Both detainees deny the charges against them.

Konstantin Gabov is a video journalist and cameraman who worked for several organizations, including the Reuters news agency. According to the investigation, Karelin collaborated with the FBC, which is declared an "extremist organization" in russia, and Navalny's team .

Another detainee, Sergei Karelin, who has dual citizenship in russia and Israel, was detained on Friday evening in the Murmansk region. The man worked for a number of publications, including AP.  According to russian investigators, Karelin was filming videos for the Navalny LIVE YouTube channel.
