A new release of a classic horror movie can be even scarier as a result.
Writes UNN with reference to Gizmodo.
The 1999 blockbuster The Witch of Blair Witch will be screened for the first time in the format in which its creators have always wanted to release the film. A new cut of the movie has been created with the newly found footage. According to one of the film's producers, Michael Monello, the movie is finally - 25 years after its release - getting the video format that reflects the version its creators (directors Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick) always intended.
The new version is "even scarier":
"The appearance, movement and abrupt transitions in the new version create a much more frightening psychological effect than in all previous versions," said the producer.
For reference
The film's initial budget was between $35,000 and $60,000. The film was shot on Hi8 video and 16mm black and white film and edited on a Media 100XR.
Artisan Entertainment has transferred the footage of the Blair Witch project to 35mm to properly adapt it to the format required for the vast majority of theaters in 1999.
"This led to serious motion errors. It made the Hi8 film look grainy and ruined all the colors with brown clouding that killed the detail," explains Michaela Monello.
The budget reached $600,000, but the film's box office receipts were extremely high, totaling $248.3 million.
AddendumAddendum
Earlier, UNN reported that the creative team of the hit 1999 horror film "The Blair Witch Project" insisted on increasing retroactive compensation for the three stars of the film. "Meaningful consultations" were also held regarding the upcoming reboot.
