"Criminalization of smuggling - for the first time in Ukraine, a person was notified of suspicion of smuggling goods worth almost UAH 13 million," the Prosecutor General's Office reported on Telegram.
According to the investigation, a resident of Chernivtsi district, heading from Romania to Ukraine through the Porubne-Siret checkpoint of the Chernivtsi customs office, chose the "green corridor" lane for customs control. By doing so, he certified that he was not transporting any goods subject to mandatory declaration.
However, during an in-depth inspection of the vehicle, customs officers found and seized 55 boxes of filter sticks for cigarettes from a specially equipped cache in the cargo compartment.
"The value of the seized raw materials reaches almost UAH 13 million," the prosecutor's office said.
The man was served a notice of suspicion of smuggling imported raw materials for the manufacture of tobacco products (Part 1 Art. 201-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided.
