russia is trying to spread fake news about Ukraine's involvement in the Crocus City terrorist attack. At the same time, russian special services are actively recruiting former ISIS fighters. This was stated by the Center for Countering Disinformation, UNN reports.
Details
The russian FSB began recruiting former ISIS fighters and turning them into its agents in 2019, three years before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. They were offered various terms of cooperation and were assigned to the militants as their curators. This is what some of these agents told the media
The Center said that at least three thousand russians are currently serving in the Iraqi cell of ISIS, and that the FSB used its connections to carry out a terrorist attack in the Moscow region.
At the same time, the Kremlin is spreading the alleged "evidence" of Ukraine's involvement in the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack for a purpose:
- creating an image of Ukraine as a terrorist;
- encouraging russians to die for imperial ambitions;
- to reduce support for Ukraine in Western society;
- in order not to give away their longstanding cooperation with ISIS
The Center predicts that the russians will continue to spread alleged "evidence" of Ukraine's involvement in the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack and intensify missile terror of the Ukrainian civilian population under the guise of revenge.
Recall
The Center for Countering Disinformation said that russia is stepping up provocations and disinformation to accuse Ukraine of terrorism, including fabricating claims of drone strikes on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
