Russia conducted a test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile from the Kapustin Yar test site. This was stated by the Russian Ministry of Defense, UNN reports.
"On April 12, 2024, a combat crew of the Strategic Missile Forces successfully launched an intercontinental ballistic missile of a mobile ground-launched missile system from the 4th State Central Interspecies Test Site Kapustin Yar in Astrakhan Oblast," the statement said.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, this launch was carried out as part of testing advanced missile systems and confirming the stability of missiles in service.
"The results confirm the high reliability of Russian missiles to ensure the strategic security of the Russian Federation. The launch task was completed in full," the statement said.

Before the statement by the Russian Defense Ministry, residents of Astrakhan and Volgograd reported seeing "something strange" in the sky. Telegram channels suggested that it was a test launch of an intercontinental missile.
A year ago, an intercontinental ballistic missile was also tested from the Kapustin Yar test site in the northeastern part of Astrakhan Oblast. According to the Ministry of Defense, "the missile's training warhead hit a conditional target at a training ground in Kazakhstan with a given accuracy.
