54 Ukrainian prisoners of war have been executed by the Russian military, reports Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office.

As of today, there are 54 Ukrainian prisoners of war executed by the Russian military. This was stated by the head of the Department for Combating Crimes Committed in the Conditions of Armed Conflict of the Prosecutor General's Office Yuriy Belousov on Suspilne TV channel, UNN reports.

Details

According to him, the Prosecutor General's Office has 27 criminal proceedings on the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war.

Currently, we have 27 criminal proceedings on the execution of our prisoners of war. We are talking about the execution of 54 prisoners of war who were executed during the hostilities

- Belousov said .

Commenting on the video posted on social media on April 7, the head of the Department noted that it was preliminarily confirmed that the crime took place near Krynky in Kherson region, but the details are still being checked.

Belousov urged to remember the loved ones and not to voice the names of the dead prematurely.

"We are also working on this fact and the previous ones with the command that is responsible for such actions. We are talking not only about unit commanders, but also about the highest military and political leadership. Because this is not an isolated case, but evidence of Russian policy," Belousov said.

According to him, cases of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war have been recorded since March 2022. The court has already sentenced the first Russian soldier for the execution of a defender in Chernihiv region.

According to him, the investigation is complicated by the fact that prosecutors and investigators usually do not have access to the crime scene or the opportunity to examine the body.

"But this work is ongoing. Ukraine has a unique experience in documenting crimes, even without access to the territory... We work with the International Criminal Court, the UN Monitoring Mission, intelligence agencies and non-governmental organizations that also collect information. Our task now is to document, record, and tell the world the truth. The criminals will be brought to justice, it's only a matter of time," Belousov said.
