U.S. President Donald Trump's promise to grant Kyiv permission to produce American Patriot air defense missiles is a victory for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but it may take at least a year to start implementing the project. Reuters reports, UNN informs.
Details
It is noted that production of Raytheon's Patriot PAC-2 interceptor fighters or Lockheed's more advanced PAC-3 will not begin quickly enough.
I would be very surprised if it happened faster than 12 months. I assume it will take significantly longer
The publication points out that one of the countries that could help Kyiv speed up this process is Germany, which has developed its own production chain for PAC-2 interceptors.
Two sources familiar with the talks said the new interceptors are likely to be manufactured in Germany or another European country where it is safer, and production could be moved to Ukraine after the war ends
The authors note that Patriot missiles are not produced in sufficient quantities to counter the ballistic threat from Russia, which annually produces at least 700-800 Iskander ground-based ballistic missiles and Kinzhal hypersonic air-launched ballistic missiles. At the same time, three Patriot interceptors are needed to intercept each ballistic missile.
Reminder
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Ukraine received a positive decision on the license to produce Patriot after a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
